This past week I had been contemplating the utter desperation that seems to have surrounded us in living our day to day life from politics to Covid-19 and pervading social injustice. To process these emotions and to achieve some type of catharsis, I started to write music that would convey this desperation that fuels our actions. Everything seems to be a matter of life and death. To uplift our spirits I wrote music that reflected our actions and emotions but also to give us strength and hope so that we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This too shall pass. We can get through this together.

Although during this pandemic many have felt overwhelmed, I wrote it on a day I was feeling that we can overcome this. We can face our challenges and overcome adversity. Imperial Battle March captures the very essence of march to battle. This epic, cinematic song encapsulates courage, nobility, honor, boldness, triumph, and victory. Like the hero from battle, march triumphantly to Imperial Battle March leading your soldiers to victory. Like a superhero, soar into to save the lives of those in peril. Bleeding Heart, a poignant chamber ensemble piece by Tito Abeleda, explores feelings of love, loss, and sorrow. Strong emotions compelled Tito to create “Bleeding Heart.” It expresses the sadness and sorrow that everyone is experiencing during these difficult times of the pandemic. Moved by the sadness that so many have had to die alone, while friends and family have been unable to be by their loved ones in their final hours, “Bleeding Heart” is a song to process this grief, a song to help reflect, to remember, and to pay tribute to loved ones, those gone too soon….

I musically wanted to convey what this picture was inspiring within me. At the end, I so aptly entitled this new piece Mongolian Empress Calls.

"a reminder of death and the transitory quality of human life" and is consequently found in memento mori and vanitas compositions; skulls have therefore been commonplace in Halloween, which touches on this theme. Traditionally, the back walls of churches are "decorated with a depiction of the Last Judgment, complete with graves opening and the dead rising, with a heaven filled with angels and a hell filled with devils" (Leslie n.d.)…
